Observation of Pacific-Indian Ocean warm pool with Argo floats, a sub-subject of “Study on the Argo float observation of the Pacific-Indian Ocean warm pool” was self-examined by an expert group organized by the Science and Research Development Office, SIO on June 18, 2008. The expert group unanimously agreed that the subject passed the acceptance examination and suggested to the Ministry of Science and Technology and the State Oceanic Administration that the international cooperative project should be attached greater importance and got more support as always is.

11 Argo floats purchased with the funds provided by the department of Science and Technology and the Department of Environmental Protection arrived in Guangzhou on May 18, 2008 and got on board R/V Ocean 1 for deployment in its Pacific cruise. This is the 7th batch of floats to be deployed by China Argo Program, which makes the total deployment up to 46 floats since its implementation.

Dr. Wang Dongxiao from the South China Sea Institute of Oceanography, Chinese Academy of Sciences visited SOED on May 13, 2008 and gave a lecture titled "Argos and Argo Observations in the South China Sea", which presents the results of Argo data used in the study of physical Oceanography of the South China Sea.

Ten APEX floats purchased by the China Argo Real-time Data Center from Webb, USA with the fund for special scientific research project for public good of SOA arrived in Hangzhou on May 7, 2008, which is the 8th batch of Argo floats imported by China Argo. The floats will be deployed in the Northwestern Pacific to replenish and consummate the China Argo Ocean Observing Array in construction.

Prof. Xu Jianping, member of the Argo Steering Team and Chief Scientist of the China Argo, together with his colleague Mr. Liu Renqing participated in AST-9 held in Exeter, UK in March 17-20, 2008.

Ms. Zhou Hongmei, regional business manager from Collecte Localization Satellite (CLS), France visited the China Argo Real-time Data Center on March 6, 2008. She presented the work and products of CLS and discussed with the China Argo group on the satellite reception and transfer of the Argo data.

At the invitation of Academician Hu Dunxin of the Institute of Oceanography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Xu Jianping attended the consultative meeting of the marine investigation of the Northwestern Pacific Ocean held in Qingdao on February 15, 2008. He briefed the meeting on the status of the construction of the China Argo Ocean Observing Array and the quantity of Argo floats to be imported and the deployment area of the floats in the next five years. The scientists attending the meeting made suggestions on the deployment area from the research projects that they undertake. All of them showed great interests on importing novel floats from abroad.
