•November 20,  2013

      State key Lab Evaluation Specialists form Ministry of science and technology inspected the rectification of the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics, and then they examined the China Argo Real-time Data Center which is as an important support platform of the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics.

 

•November 7,  2013

      The second expert group meeting of the Basic key research project "Real-time Survey of the Western Pacific Ocean with Argo" (Project Number: 2012FY112300) was hold in Zhoushan city. More than twenty experts from the Ocean University of China, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, and the National Marine Environment Forecast Center etc attended the meeting.

•October 14-18,  2013      

      The 14th Argo Data Management Meeting was hold in Liverpool, UK. the meeting was undertaken by BODC. Associate Professor Liu Zenghong and Postgraduate Lu Shaolei attended the meeting. In addition, Associate Professor Ji Fengying from the National Marine Information Center, Professor Wang Haili from Xiamen University and Doc.Xing Xiaogang from the Ocean University of China also attended the meeting.

•September 27,  2013

      A group of five South Africa scientists, headed by Monde Mayekiso, the deputy director of South Africa Environmental Protection Agency, visited China Argo real-time Data Center during the period of visiting the Second Institute of Oceanography. Associate professor Liu Zenghong had a communication with visitors about the status of Chinese Argo program, the quality control and the application of Argo data, and the South Africa’s contribution to the international Argo.

•September 9-21,  2013

      The 12th CAS-TWAS-WMO Atmospheric Sciences Forum was hold in Beijing. This workshop was sponsored by CAS, TWAS and CAS-TWAS-WMO and   undertaken by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of CAS. The topic of the meeting is The Operational Oceanography in the Developing Country, and more than 60 delegates from China, India, and South Africa etc attended the meeting. The theme of the meeting was about operational ocean forecast, the research and simulation of ocean/marine observation, data analyzing and ocean data assimilation. Liu Zenghong, associate professor from the Second Institute of Oceanography attended the meeting and gave a report named "Status and Application in Oceanology of China Argo ".

•September 2,  2013

      In shanghai, The 2013 Annual Meeting for the Chinese Society of Oceanography and the award ceremony of the Marine science and technology Award had been organized. The project “Northwest Pacific Ocean Argo Profiling float Observing and Application Research” was awarded the Second Prize of Marine Science and Technology Progress, which is jointly finished by the Second Institute of Oceanography SOA, the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center, and the South China Sea Forecasting Center SOA. Assistant Prof. Liu Zenghong and Doctor student from the China Argo Real-time Data Center, attended the meeting, and Assistant Prof. Liu standed for the Second Institute of Oceanography SOA accepted the prize.

•July 18,  2013

      17 students and teachers from College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xia Men University, visited the China Argo Real-time Data Center. Assistant Pro. Liu Zonghong introduced the operating principle of Argo profile float and the development situation of Argo project.

•July 10,  2013

      Chen Lianzeng, deputy director of State Oceanic Administration, inspected the China Argo Real-time Data Center, with Zhang Haisheng director, Qian Jinyu secretary, and other relevant staff. Chen deputy director asked the development situation of China Argo project and the construction situation of global Argo real-time ocean observation network in detail, and checked up the center operation. He highly evaluated the work of China Argo Real-time Data Center, and gave an important instruction on the development of China Argo project.

•June 24-25,  2013

      Invited by Prof. Zhang Qilong, the staff of China Argo Real-time Data Center attended the workshop “The variation of Western Pacific Warm Pool and its impact” inTaianShandong Province. They made some presentations discussing about Argo dataset reconstruction, the difference between radiometer SST and Argo near surface temperature, as well as the upper ocean heat content over Indian-Pacific.

•June 14,  2013

      As members of the preparatory team of the laboratory of vessel monitoring and security early warming platform of Shanghai Maritime University, Dr. Hu Zhiwu, Dr. Wang Shengzheng and others visited the China Argo Real-time Data Center. Assistant Pro. Liu Zenghong introduced to them the situation about Argo float observation technology, Argo data transmission, and discussed the related problems.

•June 9,  2013

       In Hangzhou, the science and technology department of SOA organized a technical evaluation meeting on the project “China Argo Profiling Float Ocean Observing Array”. The expert group agreed that it should be necessary to provide long-term operational fund support to the Argo Observing Array, which has been constructed by research projects and now still has 66 floats works in good condition.

•May 31-June 3,  2013

       8 profiling floats were deployed in the western Pacific Ocean from the R/V OCEAN VI. Among the 8 floats, 2 were domestic products.

       the Marine science and technology awards committee held award-giving meeting.        Postgraduate Student Lu Shaolei of the China Argo Real-time Data Center went to Guangzhou and boarded R/V OCEAN VI and made final detection to the Argo floats before deployment.

 

•May 16,  2013

       Canada High Union Company President Richard Timmons and Technical Director Mark Harold Evans visited the China Argo Real-time Data Center, and did further check and adjustment to the AUTOSAL 8400B salinity instrument, which had been back to Canada repaired in November 2012.

•May 14,  2013

       Prof. Xu Jianping, the Principal investigator of Western Pacific Argo Real-time Ocean Observing project, leaded its team visiting the Institute of geographical information science of Zhejiang University, listening to their report on the progress of cooperated project, and discussing the further tasks.

•March 28,  2013

      The Web of China Argo real-time data center was updated, which continues its functions: introducing Argo information home and abroad, promoting the development of China Argo program and Argo data being co-shared, and providing the service for the scientists in cooperation and exchange between the Argo member countries.

•March 19-21,  2013

       The 14th Argo Steering Team Meeting (AST-14) was held in Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Four Chinese delegates joined the meeting:  Prof. Xu Jianping and assistant Prof. Liu Zenghong from the China Argo real-time data center, Ms. Zheng Rui from International cooperation department of SOA, and assistant Prof. JiFengying from the NMDIS of SOA.

•February 28,  2013

    The Second Institute of Oceanography of SOA and 701 Institute of CSIC submitted aproject proposal “Beidou Automatic Profiling Float and Real-time Ocean Observing System” to the Natural Science Foundation of China. This proposal is aimed at developing Beidou Automatic Profiling Float with independent intellectual property rights, constructing a Real-time Ocean Observing System with over 20 floats in the Western Pacificnear China.

      invited by associate Prof Liu Zeng-hong of theArgo Real-data Center in Hangzhou,Dr. Tian Hai-yun, as theBOStar Navigation equipmentsupplierand system technical planprovider, visited the center and gave a report on theBeidou product’s characters, function, technologyindicators, adaptability, and reliability.Dr. Tian Hai-yunalsodemonstratedthe Beidou system position and data transmission. This activity is aimed at the technical preparation of developing profiling float, and construction the real-time ocean monitoring system intyphoonperiods andheavy seas.

•January 18,  2013

      theproject“Argo ocean observing array and its data assimilation and short-term climate prediction” was awarded the honorofNational Scientific and Technological Progress Second Prize, co-shared by the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, the Second Institute of Oceanography SOA, the Institute of Atmospheric physics CAS, and the National Climate Center. This research achievement was get emphasis funding support by the State Key Basic Research Development Program from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Natural Science Foundation of China.

•January 15,  2013

       Prof. Xu Jian-ping visited the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and gave a report on “Argo data quality control and several problems on data application”, invited by Prof. Yuan Dong-liang of the institute. Prof. Xu also sent Argo CD (1996-2012) to the institute, and encouraged the young scientists to use Argo data making contribution for national oceanic and atmospheric science research and dealing with the global climate change.
