•August, 2014

Apllication named "Annual and inter-annual variations of upper ocean heat and salt content of the
tropical Pacific Ocean revealed by Argo Data" has been examined and approved by NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China). It was proposed by research assistant Wu Xiaofen who worked at China Argo Real-time Center. The aim of this project is to use Argo profiling data to calculate the upper ocean heat and salt content of the tropical Pacific ocean and investigate the characteristics of its seasonal and inter-annual variations. Besides, it would also discuss the heat and salt budget of the tropical Pacific ocean during ENSO events, as well as deeply researches on the major factors which forced on the variations of heat and salt budget in the study region. This study would provide detailed background data in climate and ocean circulation models, and would also lay the foundation of study on the process of atmosphere and ocean coupling.
