• December 31
The Lin’an part of CARDC was brought into operation, which is 38 km away from the Hangzhou part (CSIO). At Lin’an, CARDC has a float monitoring room (also serves as the CARDC office), a float assembly and testing laboratory and a seawater analysis laboratory. It will also serves as a station of data receiving, processing and delivering for those floats using Beidou satellite system. 

• December 5
With the help of the National Meteorological Information Center (NMIC), China Meteorological Administration (CMA), CARDC established a FTP connection with NMIC. Through this connection, the data from the operational China Argo fleet can be inserted into the GTS for data exchanges among WMO member states.
 
• November 20-22
Shaolei Lu and Zhaoqin Li conducted a final test at the Zhoushan Dock of CSIO for 15 floats (including 14 PROVOR floats and one HM2000 float), which were expected to be deployed through a comprehensive investigation cruise in the eastern equatorial Indian ocean and the BOB (named JAMES). The cruise was organized by CSIO and implemented via R/V “Xiang yang hong 06”.

• November 19
Mr. Jerome Sayot, the technical director of NKE, visited the CARDC. During his visit, Shaolei introduced him the progress of China Argo program and technical issues encountered from floats. Jerome Sayot also gave a presentation about the development of PROVOR/ARVOR floats in NKE.
 
• November 14
Mr. Thomas Matchell, vice president of Seabird and his colleagues, visited the CARDC. A discussion about the China Argo progress, SBE CTD and BGC sensors technology as well as the sensor calibration equipment happened between Zenghong and SBE group.
 
• November 12
Emma Heslop, the project expert of the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) Project office, visited CSIO and gave a presentataion entitled "Global Ocean Observing System 2030 Strategy". Chaohui Sun was invited to the meeting and had discussions on topics including the current implementation status of the international Argo Program, the Argo 2020 vision and the status of the China Argo. 
 
• November 1
Xiaofen Wu came back to CSIO after finishing the 3-month Argo DMQC training at CSIRO. During the training, she got many helps from the technical staffs of the CSIRO Argo team in Australia, and she also received the Argo DMQC toolkit that CSIRO developed. This training will undoubtedly promote the Argo DMQC in China.
 
• October 29
The Office of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) granted the first set of 15 observation and research stations. CARDC was listed with the name of “Observation and Research Station of Global Ocean Argo system (Hangzhou)”.
 
• October 15
Teachers and undergraduates from the college of oceanography, Hohai University, visited CARDC. Shaolei gave a lecture entitled "Global Argo ocean observation network and its latest implementation progress" for the students, introducing the Argo float technology, data quality control and application. 
 
• October 12-19
The 20th International Argo Data Management Team Meeting (ADMT-20) & the 8th BGC-Argo workshop were held in Villefranche-sur-Mer, France. The meeting were hosted by the Sorbonne University Oceanography Laboratory (LOV). On behalf of China Argo, Zenghong, Xiaogang and Zhaoqin from CSIO, and Mingmei Dong and Qingsheng Miao from NMDIS attended the meeting.
 
• August 28-30
Laure Technologies and Sea-Bird Scientific Inc. organized the “Sea-Bird Advanced Technology Technical Seminar” in the city of Guiyang, Guizhou. More than 110 researchers and technicians from various institutions and universities participated in this seminar. Three technicians from CARDC were invited to participate in.
 
• June 28 to July 6
Four undergraduates students from the college of marine science, Shanghai Ocean University took a one-week internship at CARDC. During their internship, Zenghong introduced them the latest progress of the Argo program and Argo data products. Using the BOA_Argo data set, the students analyzed the relationship between big-eye tuna CPUE’s spatio-temporal distribution and thermocline depth and finished their internship report.
 
• June 27
22 undergraduate students from the college of oceanography, Zhejiang University of Technology, visited CARDC. Zenghong introduced the origin and implementation status of the Argo Program to them. The students expressed their interest to the Argo Program, and asked our technicians related technical problems about the Argo.

• June 21
Mr. Eric Siegel, Sales Director of the RBR visited CARDC and introduced the development progress of RBR CTD sensors for profiling float and underwater glider. With the staffs at CARDC, Eric also discussed the application of RBR CTD in the Chinese floats and their formal inclusion in the international Argo Program.

 
• May 25
Zenghong, Shaolei, and Zhaoqin attended the CSIO's annual “Public Science Day” activity, and introduced the technology of profiling float and the Argo program to citizens and students. 
 
• May 20
Over 20 students from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Zhejiang Gongshang University, visited CARDC. Shaolie introduced the implementation and development of the international Argo program to the students and interpreted the working principle and data application of profiling floats. 
 
• May 17
Accompanied by Ms. Yingying Chen from Laure Technologies, Mr. Barry Lyon, President of Sea-Bird, visited CARDC. A discussion about the floats technology, CTD sensor technology and biogeochemical sensor development happened between CARDC's staffs and the guests.
 
May 13-15

The 2nd Deep Argo Workshop was held at CSHOR in Hobart, Australia. More than 30 representatives from 10 countries attended the workshop. Assistant researcher Wu Xiaofen and assistant researcher Li Zhaoqin from China Argo Real-Time Data Center attended the meeting.


• May 5
Invited by Mr. Fanrong Zhang, the general manager of Haiying Marine Co. Ltd, Jianping visited the company and gave a talk about the current status and prospects of the implementation of the international Argo program. A discussion about the development of Chinese profiling float and CTD sensor had happened.

 

• April 25
Invited by the Pilot National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (Qingdao), Zenghong took part in the 16th Qinglong Wenhai scientific Salon and presented a report entitled "Argo and Glider Observation data Quality Control". The report introduced the experiences of real-time/delayed mode data quality control accumulated by CARDC. After that, Zenghong also talked about the Argo's future development and its challenges with the students from Ocean University of China.


March 29

Dr. Zhaohui CHEN, the deputy director of the Laboratory for Ocean and Climate Dynamics of the Pilot National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology(Qingdao), visited the China Argo Real-time Data Center. The two sides discussed the technical problems encountered in the development of domestic Deep profile float, and the participation of China in the international Deep-Argo program.

March 29

Lijie Zhang, general manager of HSOE and his colleagues visited CARDC. During his visit, a discussion about the coverage of the HM2000 float, the long-term performance of CTD sensor, and promotion of the Chinese profiling floats happened.
 
• March 28
Dr. Shaobo Yang from the float team of Qingdao Ocean Engineering Research Institute of Tianjin University, visited CARDC, and discussed technical issues of profiling float development with the staffs of CARDC.
 
• March 20-29   
Via the “Tan Kah Kee” RV from Xiamen University, CARDC deployed 4 floats in the northwestern Pacific ocean. Of these floats, 2 are APEX iridium floats manufactured by TWR and the remaining are PROVOR-IV BGC floats produced by NKE.


March 13-15

The 20th International Argo Steering Team Meeting (AST-20) hosted by the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics (SOED) was successfully held in Hangzhou. About 55 AST members and national representatives from 15 countries were invited to attend the meeting. The theme of this meeting was focused on the “Argo2020 vision”, and the projection for the international Argo program in the next 10-20 years.

The first international BGC-Argo meeting organized by the SOED was held in Hangzhou. 19 representatives from 7 countries were invited to attend the meeting (including Zenghong Liu and Xiaogang Xing of SOED, and Professor Haili Wang of Xiamen University). This meeting also marks that the international BGC-Argo plan has officially entered the global BGC-Argo ocean observation network.
 
• March 7
Ms. Zhaoying Li from Xiamen University visited CARDC. Zenghong introduced the latest progress in the implementation of both the domestic and international Argo programs and expressed gratitude to Xiamen University for providing deployment opportunities and assistance in float deployments.

• February 24
Dr. Azam and Faila from the University of Dhaka visited CARDC. Zenghong gave them an introduction about the current status of the international and China Argo programs, the data quality control and application of Argo data as well.
