 Lijie Zhang, the general manager of Qingdao Hisun Ocean Equipment Corporation, and his delegation visited CARDC. A discussion about the technical problems occurred in recently deployed HM2000 floats and joint development of HM2000-DO float took place between two sides. 

 


 14 Dec 2020

The 5th meeting of the third academic committee of the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics (SOED) was held in Hangzhou. During the meeting, the unveiling ceremony of the SOED and two observation and research stations of Ministry of Natural Resources including Global Ocean Argo System (Hangzhou) station were held. Zenghong and Jianping took part in the ceremony.


 

 3-5 Dec 2020

With the help of the technician from Hangzhou Shallow-Sea Technology Inc., Zenghong Liu and Zhaoqin Li conducted a final test and configuration setting for 21 PROVOR floats at Changzhi Dock, Zhoushan. These floats will be deployed in the tropical western Pacific ocean via R/V “Xiang Yang Hong 06”, as an important part of China’s contribution to TPOS-2020.

The international Argo data management team held the 2020 (21th) annual virtual meeting. The meeting focused on the progress and status of Argo data management, real-time/delayed-mode data quality control and Argo data applications. More than 100 representatives from over 10 member states of the international Argo program participated in the meeting. Zenghong, Xiaofen and Shaolei attended the meeting on behalf of China Argo.

Invited by Lijing Cheng, an associate researcher of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zenghong presented a video talk entitled "Latest progress and data quality of Argo" for the researchers of the CAS-TWAS Center of Excellence for Climate and Environment Sciences.

Invited by Dr. Huizan Wang from the School of Meteorology and Oceanography, National University of Defense Technology, Zenghong and Chaohui visited the college. A discussion on topics such as Argo data fast collection, quality control and two-way communication of Argo floats took place between two sides. During the visit, Zenghong presented a talk about the progress on Argo program and its data accuracy, as well as Argo data quality control methods.

Invited by the college of marine sciences Shanghai ocean university, Jianping gave a trainee expert lecture on ocean observation entitled “Argo 2020: embracing a new era of global, full-depth and multidisciplinary ocean observation" for undergraduates and postgraduates via a video conference. His lecture gave them a full understanding about the latest progress of the Argo program and the implementation status, challenges, and prospectives of China Argo.

The RBRArgo CTD task team established in accordance to the consensus from the AST-21 meeting (video conference) organized the first virtual workshop. The workshop was chaired by Susan Wijffels, the co-chair of the AST. Mr. Greg Johnson and Dr. Mathieu Dever from RBR, introduced the usage, accuracy evaluation, long-term stability and dynamic correction methods of RBRArgo CTD sensor. The members of the task team raised questions and discussions. Zenghong was invited to participate in the workshop as a member of the task team.

Zenghong and Mr. Lijie Zhang, the general manager of Qingdao Hisun Ocean Equipment Corporation had a discussion on the HM2000 float performance, technical improvement and supply of CTD sensors. It is agreed that the two sides agreed will work together to provide necessary technical support for the construction and long-term maintenance of the China Argo observation network.

On behalf of China Argo, Zenghong took part in the ZOOM meeting of the AST (AST-21), which was organized by the international Argo program office. During the meeting, he gave an introduction of the HM2000 float that HSOE developed.

 

 

 15 Feb 2020

The international Argo program office officially announced that the number of active floats in the global Argo fleet has reached 4000. Two days later, it reached a peak of 4060. The top 10 countries and groups contributed to this fleet include the United States (2224), Australia (360), France (270), Japan (230), Germany (161), the United Kingdom (153), the European Union (123), India (115), China (97) and Canada (96).



 

11 Dec 2019-17 Feb 2020

Via the two investigation cruises (RV: Xiang Yang Hong 01 & Xiang Yang Hong 06) in India ocean organized by FIO and SIO, MNR, respectively, 33 floats were deployed in the eastern Indian ocean and Bay of Bengal. Of these floats, 19 were HM2000 floats using Iridium satellite system.
