Real-time Survey of the Western Pacific Ocean with Argo
Real-time Survey of the Western Pacific Ocean with Argo, a special project of basic scientific research for 2012 sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology was officially approved by the ministry. The project will be carried out jointly by the Second Institute of Oceanography, SOA, the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center and Zhejiang University from May 2012 to May 2017 with the Second Institute of Oceanography in the lead. It is another major project sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology for implementing China Argo Program after “Study of the upper ocean structure and its variation and prediction based on the global real-time ocean observation (Argo) program”from 2007-2011.
The main objectives of the project are: 1) to deploy 35 Argo floats to replenish and maintain which is of important China Argo Ocean Observing Network; 2) realization of operational collection of the Argo data through network connection with other national DACs; 3) to improve the accuracy and reliability of Argo data with the help of established in-the-sea calibration and laboratory adjustment system as well as the real-time and delayed mode QC system;, and build up capability to test and process the observational data from over 3000 floats in the global oceans automatically and quickly, 4) to produce gridded Argo data products and and other outreach products to provide a greater verity of basic data with richer information for users; 5) to build up an Argo data management and sharing system to distribute real-time and DM Argo data on an operational basis so as to provide a quick and high quality service of data and information for the users.
