Deployment Cruise-9
China Argo floats deployment cruises :
As part of a research project, the Study on the Observation of Argo Profiling Floats and its Application in the Northwestern Pacific Ocean supported by the special fund of marine scientific research for public-good, which is carried out by the Second Institute of Oceanography, the National Marine Environment Forecasting Center and the South China Sea Marine Forecasting Center of SOA with the Second Institute of Oceanography in the lead and backed by China Argo Real-Time Data Center (CARDC), 10 Argo floats were deployed from R/V Dongfanghong 2 in April 4 – 24, 2009 in the northwest Pacific Ocean. Because of the limitation of the ship operation time and area, the actual deployment positions are different from those of planned ones (see Fig. 1). At Argo 01 Station, a prototype of Argo float developed by the National Marine Technology Center was also deployed. This float is equipped with pressure and temperature sensor but not conductivity sensor and the Chinese Beidou satellite system is used for its data transmission. Its profile observation depth is 400m. All the 10 floats are APEX floats in which 4 are APF9A type and 2 equipped with Optode oxygen sensor. The observation depth is 0 – 2000m with a cycle of 10days.. Comparable CTD measurements were taken from 0 to 2000m and water samples at 10 levels (5m, 50m, 100m, 200m, 300m, 500m, 800m, 1000m, 1500m and 2000m) were collected for salinity measurement with AUTOSAL 8400B salinograph for calibration of Argo data.
