Mr.Belbeoch attended "Innovation & Blue Growth" symposiumQingdao
At Oct.28-30, 2013, "Innovation & Blue Growth" symposium sponsored by the City of Qingdao (China) and Brest m¨¦tropole oc¨¦ane (Brest, France), organized by the Technopôle Brest-Iroise (Brest, France), the DOST (Direction of Science and Technologies) of the City of Qingdao (China) and the Oceanic University of China, in cooperation with the MiTiN (Maritime Innovative Territories International) was hold in Oceanic University of China. The topics of the symposium are Science and technology innovation in oceanography and blue economy, two topics will be discussed in two sessions: oceanography and marine bio-resources. The meeting thought that advances in oceanography research can give a better knowledge of the complexity of the physical, chemical and biological processes that govern the marine environment. Fundamental knowledge of the ocean will open the way to sustainable exploitation of marine bio-resources for food, energy or health-related challenges.
Mr. Mathieu Belbeoch, Argo Coordinator, International program JCOMMOPS (IOC-WRO), attended the meeting and made a report titled "Global Ocean Observing Systems Coordination by JCOMMOPS". Mr. Belbeoch emphasized that Argo is a revolutionary achievements in ocean subsurface observations, and it s also a unprecedented cooperation in oceanography history, finding a great way to comprehend the upper ocean warming, providing abundant data of the new generation of seasonal forecasting model. He hopes the meeting can enhance the cooperation of founding the global ocean observation.
More than 300 experts from different organizations around the world includes Dr. Wendy Watson-Wright who is executive secretary and assistant director general of the intergovernmental oceanographic commission of the united nations educational, scientific and cultural organization (IOC-UNESCO), Mr. Lijie CAI who is program officer for national reports and the secretariat of the convention on biological diversity/United nations environment program, Mr. Jostein NYGARD, environmental and social development unit, east Asia and pacific region, World Bank, USA, attended the meeting.
